CROWN LTD's stainless steel parts are solid, highly rust and corrosion resistant, and will not peel. Striking a stainless steel surface with a piece of carbon steel can cause surface contamination and therefore local rust. Occasionally, something as simple as polishing stainless steel with a cloth contaminated with carbon steel can cause rust. Many situations can cause cosmetic surface contamination. A trace of iron on the surface of the stainless steel will rust when it comes in contact with a salt atmosphere. Surface rust can be removed by polishing the stainless with high quality chrome cleaner.
Stainless steel is generally very resistant to corrosion or natural damage from the elements. Therefore it is quite easy to maintain. To look their best, products exposed to the salt marine environment should be rinsed daily and washed regularly with mild soap and water followed by a fresh water rinse and chamois dried to prevent water spots.
For products in interior use we suggest first brushing or dusting away excess dust and grit with soft cloth. Use care not to mar the surface. We like the 3M® micro-fiber wiping cloth for wiping down stainless steel. You may also use ammonia-based window cleaner if required. DO NOT use abrasive cleaners or harsh cloth when wiping stainless steel as its high luster finish can be easily scratched or clouded. Many paper towels are harsh and not generally recommended for wiping. Use finer facial tissue or a very soft flannel cloth without stitching if a 3M® micro-fiber wiping cloth is not available. In the event a stainless steel surface becomes marred, Crown Ltd can normally restore it to original luster. DO NOT USE ANY ABRASIVE CLEANER.
After cleaning and polishing stainless steel, it may be coated with a nonabrasive polish such as premium liquid auto wax. All metal used in the marine environment requires proper maintenance to look its best.
