Stainless Steel

CROWN LTD's stainless steel parts are rust and corrosion resistant. Stainless steel contains iron, which can concentrate in small areas for many reasons. Occasionally, something as simple as polishing the stainless steel can expose minute pockets of iron. It is also possible to contaminate stainless steel surfaces if carbon steel comes in contact with it, or by a polishing cloth contaminated with carbon steel being rubbed against the stainless. Many situations can cause cosmetic surface rust. Traces of iron on the surface of the stainless steel will rust when it comes in contact with a salt atmosphere. Surface rust can be removed by polishing the stainless with good quality chrome cleaner.

Stainless steel is generally very resistant to corrosion or natural damage from the elements. Because of this, it is quite easy to maintain. Products exposed to the marine environment should be washed with mild soap and water followed by a thorough rinsing with fresh water and chamois dried after each use.

On interior parts, you may also use common ammonia-based window cleaner and the softest possible wiping material normally cleans the surface. DO NOT use abrasive cleaners or materials in wiping the surface, since the metal is polished to a luster and can be clouded or scratched. For example, ordinary paper towels are not recommended for cleaning, but finer quality facial tissue or a very soft cloth is vital.   In the event the surface becomes marred with a substance, which resists glass cleaner, DO NOT USE ANY ABRASIVE CLEANER. We recommend the 3M® micro-fiber wiping cloth for cleaning.

After cleaning and polishing the stainless steel, it should be coated with a nonabrasive polish such as premium liquid auto wax. All metal in the marine environment requires proper maintenance to look its best.
